BRIEF: A new travel magazine focused on featuring unconventional travel destinations required a new cover, and a six-page layout on the Nam Ou River region in Laos. The design of the feature is to evoke the essence of the Nam Ou, which was facing imminent destruction by developers.
CONCEPT: I drew visual inspiration from the rich, delicate and aromatic ecosystem and river networks of the Nam Ou, and the intertwined physical and spiritual wellbeing of the local people with their natural environment. This is represented through the layered undulating movement in organic forms and line, creating a scattered, dynamic layout. The concept of colour is important, with the exploration rooted in hues of 70s mysticism, psychedelia and transcendental poster art. This coupled with an illustrative, textural image treatment, is evocative of a window into a fleeting fantastical and atmospheric world. | AUDIENCE: 25-60, adventurous, well travelled, alternatively minded. | Student Project | TIME: 2 DAYS
